We Rock It

A workshop project for schools aimed at raising awareness and education.

In this workshop, our mentors share their stories of fleeing from Afghanistan and Syria, and how they built their successful careers in Germany.

Young refugees must fundamentally reorient themselves in their host society. For this, they need not only information but also trusted people they can turn to with questions. In this project, we offer workshops in schools where our mentors, originally from Afghanistan and Syria, share how and why they came to Germany and what their successful integration journey looks like. Based on their experiences, they can identify which questions are important for reorientation and should be answered. They can motivate young refugees to face the challenges they encounter here. In classes without refugees, the mentors report on their flight experiences and their career development in Germany to inform locals about possible reasons for fleeing from Afghanistan and Syria, and to explain how difficult or easy settling in Germany can be.

Project leader Sorush Mawlahi is an active member of the association whom we support with his self-designed project. He has been living in Germany since 2016, has had an incredibly ambitious school career, and now wants to share his success and motivation. Through a large network of helpers, he managed to quickly improve his German, complete his specialized high school diploma, and is now mastering an apprenticeship as an IT specialist for system applications.
